Ahhh!

Oh, Rebb, you have a beautiful voice.  Even better than that, you have a good message to share.  (Content is always more important than a lovely voice. A pretty-sounding voice saying nothing has little value.)  To be afraid to speak in front of an audience in a formal speech-giving situation is almost universal.  Research indicates that very few are without some nervouness and/or fear. I used to tell speech students that I would not like to meet in a dark alley that small percentage of people who don't care what others think of them. If you want to desensitise yourself to the extreme fear, keep practicing and participating in public oral communication.  Gradually you will overcome the extreme fear.  I would not advise you to ever lose some awareness of the danger you are in when sharing your thoughts and feelings. That extra energy can be turned to your advantage.  Force yourself to see and think intensely of your audience as they receive your message. Watch their reactions, and then react back to them.  That flow between speaker and audience can be magically joyful. Or   if you have a hostile audience, you have opportunity to change their thinking to what you think is better.   Communication works best when it is not about you but the ones you are giving to.  I loved knowing you wrote this in your private journal in 2009 and deliberately did not edit it before you shared it with us.  Thank you for this gift.

Thanks for your kind words,

Thanks for your kind words, Sue. Thank you, too, for your wisdom. I will keep it close to access when and if I find myself in a public speaking situation.

Sociopaths Love Public Speaking

I would distrust someone who absolutely adored public speaking, above all, addressing their peers. It's human nature.

Lou,

Hmm…I disagree with the statement that “Sociopaths love public speaking.” Also, I’m sure there are folks that truly enjoy public speaking, especially if they feel that they benefit their listeners, whether peers or the public. I’d be curious to know anyone that absolutely adores it. Anyway, I don’t fancy it, but I sure do love listening to a talented public speaker. And public speaking is so broad, so yes, there will be those that use the art in a negative way, as we’ve seen throughout history.

Thanks for sharing your view.

Thank You

Reminded me of how I felt in high school when I began learning how to become a public speaker. I shook all over. Thank you, Rebecca

Absolutely perfect!

Hi Rebbecca,

This morning while waiting for my Grandson to wake up I finally played the anticipated The Voice. It was beautiful in content and sound ! After enjoying the creativity and talent that you have shared in Red Room...that wonderful, captivating, and sweet voice ...it was just as I imagined it to be.

I predict that there will be a demand for you to do the audio portion of your forthcoming books.

A fan for life,

Mary Walsh

The voice of an artist

This is the voice of a woman with a straight back, brave enough to share her fears and sensitive enough to give wings to her words. Some exquisite imagery: "memory is a cloudy gray with streaks of purple;" "den of bees." What wonderful richness from an artist! The student has graduated into a confident woman!

I've been away from Red Room for way too long, and hearing your voice, Rebb, was like a welcome home.

Thank you for that, and congratulations for making the front page!  A recognition long overdue!  ~Mara

It's wonderful to see you, Mara! Thank you for your kind words. I've thought of you recently, especially since I've had art on my mind; and then there you are. What a welcome surprise! Glad to see you back. Hope your book has found it's way--and that your doggie is doing well.

Please, a standing ovation is the call here. Perfect! Simply beautiful. A true artist.

I am thrilled to see you on the front page; just where you belong. :-)
